MAACM - St. Petersburg, FL
Architect: Alfonso Architects
The Museum of the American Arts and Crafts Movement (MAACM), completed in 2020, is a 150,000 sq. ft. private institution featuring a monumental atrium staircase and approximately 82,000 sq. ft. of exterior enclosure systems with complex shapes. The atrium stair includes three flights, each a squircle plan geometry, rotated about a common vertical axis to create a layered view from below. The stair cladding system consists of continuous, hand-applied venetian plaster. The staircase structure, which comprises a custom 1/4 in. steel plate box fabrication, required accommodation of high cladding dead load with small displacement requirements and a high potential superstructure concrete creep displacement. AVRO is the design Engineer of Record for the atrium monumental staircase and its anchorage to the base building structure. AVRO provided design consulting on multiple glazed and clad exterior enclosures systems, including complex "Ovoid" geometries, thin stone veneer cladding and long-span glazing systems. AVRO is the design Engineer of Record for exterior enclosure glazing and cladding systems on this project.
