Union Square Residence - New York, NY
Architect: Steven Harris Architects
Modernist architect Paul Rudolph renovated this West Village residence in 1993 to include an all-glass rear elevation. In 2016, Steven Harris Architects reconstructed and improved the original work with oversized insulating glass in long-span, thermally-broken steel framing. The new design includes an exterior glass-floor walkway and staircase to the rear yard, with formal components consistent with the original design. AVRO provided design and detailing of all structural aspects of the rear facade, coordination with the Base Building Structural Engineer, site review and Engineer of Record services.
